My 82 virago xv750 one carb isnt working, if i spray carb cleaner in it, it runs great for a sec.?

obv. i have a hitachi dual carb (very frustrating). had the bike running great for two years backfired in high rpm range and when i decelerated. just before i put it in storage last year she started running like crap i couldnt keep her running in idol. after storage i cleaned the carbs and put new plugs in it. now my rear carb doesnt want to tune in, it barely sucks air in and backfires like crap, and unbelievably it runs better if i spray carb cleaner in it! any clue.....anyone. oh i also only have owned it for three years the kid before me put straight pipes on it and reversed the jets. 108 on the front and 112 on the rear and had it running with some crappy sponges as filters. i changed them to some 3" filters from a car parts store because he also cut the rubber tube and angled it outward so the filters stuck outward on both sides of the bike(probably wanted a cooler look). i switched the jets and upgraded them to 132 on the front and 128 on the rear. that ran great like i said for about two years. due to this bike i have learned how to clean the carbs and tune it good enough for me. please tell me if there in anything i am not thinking of.
