Do you think that marriage should be separated from the state because it is a religious institution?

i mean if government was to finally remove their hold on marriage and stop dictating to people about how their love life should be don't you think things would be better and also there would be less fights about money because the entire alimony payments would be no more and so would child support which may or may not lead to better relations with people but it would definitely make things simpler if both parents would have custody and both of them would have to contribute financially to the child.
