Difference between PLAID and FLANNEL shirts?

PLAID is a design, FLANNEL is th fabric. i could have a stripped flannel, but not a stripped plaid. i could have a soild flannel, but not a solid plaid. i usually see plaid shirts made out of flannel, not flannel shirts made out of plaid. do you understand now?
