What is an alternative to Espresso machines cleaning tablets?

It may not be a good idea to put anything else but the tablet. You don't want to put anything that may cause some damage later. Which is why in my Mcdonalds where I work at, we don't use Sanitizer packets anymore. The sanitizers may clog the tubes and prevent milk flow.
